DESCRIPTION

A tetradrachm issued under one of Alexander the Great's top generals and successors, King Lysimachos. Struck at the Magnesia mint, circa 297 - 281 BC.

The obverse with the deified Alexander, his gaze fixed into the distance, a thin diadem running through his wild hair, the horn of ammon just above his ear.

The reverse with Athena, seated on a throne, wearing a Corinthian helmet and flowing drapery, she holds out the winged goddess of victory in her right hand, her left elbow resting on a round shield. The legend reading:

ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΛΥΣΙΜΑΞΟΥ
